During his first term, President Clinton proudly announced “sending to the streets” 100,000 more police officers. That was over 20 years ago.
Today, a prominent daily whines about a mere 400 “fatal police shootings” within the last five months. We still do not know how many hundreds of thousands more officers have been “sent” to work, and how the instructions at police academies have been changed, and how morale has evolved at police departments within the past two decades.
We also still do not have any credible word on the spreading observations regarding the popularity of steroids and other controlled substances within the police force.
Those 400 deaths may, in fact, be a very fortunate number.
If the United States is considered the leading democracy in the world, many other countries would follow as closely as they can .
The street scene above with political advertising for the office of city mayor has been captured in Puerto Callao, the largest and oldest port in Perú, in January 2015. From a visitor’s point of view, it is a very quiet, well maintained, and secure city center.
